Rye United Win

Rye U 2-0 Seaford Town

Although Seaford claimed they put out a second string side Rye still had to
get 3 points to keep their heads above Worthing in second place.

Historically a tempestuous affair Rye dominated throughout and scored a goal
in each half without much resistance from Seaford, making Ryes third win
against this team this season.

It all started very brightly with Macca and Clarke seeing efforts within the
first 6 mins followed by a Sam Cole header although it lacked any punch from
a poor corner.

Loft had a shot and Leach's turn and Volley was blocked for a corner. At
Ryes next corner (they were coming thick and fast now) Sam Coles goal bound
effort was blocked by Ramsey and went out for a GK.

Seaford didnt really manage to put much together and couldnt even take
advantage when the Rye gifted them with the ball in some dangerous
positions, but on 22 mins Seaford had their best chance of the GAME when
they were clean through, the striker turned and shot wide.

On 26 mins Macca went on a trademark run but his effort was blocked and out
for a corner again. However one minute later and a Macca slide rule pass
between defenders placed for the run of Ricky Martin who whipped the ball
onto Leachs foot and he fired home.

Just 5 mins later and Maccas FK went narrowly wide.

Clarkes header went straight to the keeper along with a volley by Leach as
Rye pressed for another goal. 1 – 0 Rye at half time.

Second half was almost identical to the first with Rye leading the way all
over the pitch. On 50 mins Leach headed over from Sam Coles cross, Maccas
turn and shot curled over the bar. It was only 5 mins later that Rye
finished the game off when Ricky Martin made a terrific chase for the ball
aimed down at the corner flag, he collected the ball, held off the defender
and his low cut back cross was dummied by Leach after hearing Maccas shout.
Macca thumped the ball home to finish off a fantastic piece of possesion
football youll ever see.

The next Rye corner saw Ramsey nod a powerful header at goal only to see it
headed away off the line by a defender.

Ramsay , moments later narrowly missed connecting with his head when the
ball was swung in from the right as he dived towards goal. The ball
eventually falling to Loft who's flicked shot went wide.

Ricky Martin was substituted much to the relief of the Seaford defence, only
to be replaced by Luke Woodley who continued to terrorize the Seaford back
four. On one run he rode 5 challenges before the ref called play back for a
Rye FK.

Seaford did have another shot ( their second of the game) on 76 mins but it
went over the fence and nearly into the river, Seaford had their best spell
of possesion in the last 5 mins but rarely got as far as a final ball into
the danger area.

The Watson brothers played together for Rye the first time this season.

Rye had managed to avoid a possible defeat and gained 3 points and a clean
sheet.

Well done everyone.
