Rye United win
Rye U 3 - 0 Westfield
Pitch conditions and weather similar to last Saturday but this time Rye took their chances very well.
The injured Mcarthur only able to watch from the sidelines.
The first few minutes Rye were unable to reap the rewards from good inter passing in midfield.
Ellis having played very well in this game coupled with great runs down the flanks from Luke Woodley and Sam Cole.
14 mins it was Woodley who got on the score sheet when he ran from the half way line without being closed down cut inside and shot under the keeper.
The same player added to the tally 25 mins ,when a ball swung into the danger area (form good inter play on the left was narrowly missed Watson sliding in),
only for Woodley to run in at far post and crash the ball into empty net. Ellis linked up with Leach on several occasions the most notable ending in a close off side decision.Watson replaced by Ginge.
Westfield had a few shots but most were nowhere near close enough for Gardner to be troubled.
Second half and Leach won a Free Kick outside the area from this Radley headed just wide. Leach was more dominant
in this game than I have seen previously and coupled with Clarke they both created many chances.
One of Clarke's crosses was cut out by the keeper and led to a Westfield attack ending in Gardner being closed down,
but the ball went safe. Rye pushing forward were liable to balls over the top which Westfield hit at almost every opportunity.
On 65 mins came Ryes closest chance to score when Clarke recived the ball in the
penalty area and spun and shot on the turn just wide. However on 75 minutes Ricky Martin worked the left flank and chipped in a cross met by Clarkes head and into the net.
S Cole looked like he would score when clean through but wide and his shot thumped a foot wide.
The next action of note was from Westfield when their striker chested down a lovely cross he volleyed over the bar
and probably over the river. Leach replaced by D Cole and L Woodley Replaced by Eldridge. Most of the excitement was over.
Westies hit a Free Kick straight into the wall and another went sailing over the bar.
Summary good all round performance but Ellis was outstanding again and MoM Luke Woodley. Gardner well
protected by the defence and wasn’t troubled all day.
