Clymping Win
Clymping 5 - 1 Rye U
Rye couldnt overcome several obstacles today to preserve their unbeaten away record.
The strange thing is that Rye looked like they might get a goal as early as the second minute when Ben Radley received the ball and worked a 1,2 and hit a shot that was blocked and sent out for a corner.
Clymping saw a FK headed at goal but was flagged off side while at the other end a McArthur FK was curled direct towards goal and pushed away for a corner. Moments later Sam Cole flashed wide probably Ryes best chance of the first half when put through from McArthurs pass with only the keeper to beat. It took nearly 30 mins for the home side to have a shot at goal and even this went very wide. Meanwhile Ellis was clearly in pain from a recent tackle and had to be replaced by Leach.
Clymping then took a FK that found its way straight to Gardner as it was too quick for their own players. A long throw by Ramsey on 30 mins was flicked on by a Clarke back header across goal but didnt fall kindly for Rye and was defended away from danger. Danny leach shot over from after a ball over the top. Still Clymping didnt look like scoring – that is until the help of the ref awarding a pen for a point blank shot hitting Ramsey in the face. The ref pointing to the spot and on 37 mins the home side were 1 nil up and put wind in their sails and winded Rye.
Clymping should have done better when shooting across goal on a 1 on 1 with Gardner on a rare first half chance for the hosts. The half time whistle blew and Rye were shell shocked nothing had gone right so far and 1 – 0 down. Second half and 50 mins on the watch when Clympings no 9 ran and danced with the ball and slotted home, not a great start but Rye still must have believed that the game was still there to be won.
This was demonstrated when Clarke flashed wide and moments after the restart and also saw his header go wide from a cross from the right. Radley also going close from McArthurs pass. Clymping responded when their FK was well defended but the rebound was hit wide. The turning point was probably McArthurs red card in the 47th minute which meant Rye were now down to 10 men and had lost the 2 most influential creative mid field players. However Rye galvanized themselves and had some excellent chances to get on the score sheet themselves.
Paul Watson came into the game a bit more and his corner was headed by Clarke straight at the keeper and then a Radley header over from one of his crosses. Rye were now 3 down and Ricky Martin appeared to be fighting the mid field battle almost single handed. It was as a result of his continued pressure and block tackles that he won the ball and ran to the byline cutting back the ball enabling Leach to finish on 69 mins. Rye had restored some pride and a deserved goal. Clarke was unlucky not to score when his header came back off the defender in front of him and fell for him to volley but this looped over the bar. Rye then seemed to lack concentration at the back and Clymping forced a save from Gardner as the ball went through everyone, the striker running on through unopposed.
One minute later and an action replay as before except the shot flashed across goal with Gardner merely a spectator. Paul Watson was taking the Fks now and his far post effort was met by Loft and Ridgway who got in each others way, the ball somehow bobbled between both of them as they jumped to head goalwards. Clymping made it 4 -1 on 85 mins after their shot hit the post after good build up play but it was a home player that reacted first as the ball bounced back out kindly in front of goal. Clymping finished the scoring with almost the last kick of the game with a familiar passing move and again the scorer having plenty of time to pick the spot.
Rye didnt give up and were pushing all the time up field this obviously left gaps which Clymping took full advantage of. A disappointing scoreline in which Rye may look back on as hard luck but Clymping did play well and deserved the win but not sure it should have been by 4 goals.
