Rye United Win

Rye managed to not only overturn their defeat at Shoreham in the semi final
against Loxwood but also managed another clean sheet. Again what was looking
to be a cracking encounter turned out very one sided in Ryes favour.

It started from the whistle with Leach flagged off side 3 times in the first
5 mins, the last effort was a Sam Cole flick near the half way line that
Leach ran onto starting his run at least a yard on side. Sam Cole a few
minutes later also crossed for Leach who's effort came off a defenders head
and against the crossbar and over for a corner.

Loxwoods first real venture in the Rye half saw them overlap the Rye defence
but the shot when it came was not any trouble for Gardner.

At the other end Leach didnt get clean contact when in a good position, the
ball coming off his shin.

Rye gathered momentum and after a melee of some minutes managed to win a
corner, then Mcarthur's ambitious shot went wide and also Clarke headed
over.

Marc Gall shot into the side netting much to the delight of the home crowd.
However he was to have more influence on the game as it was his run that was
stopped at the edge of the “D”on 25 mins, McArthur converted somehow wrong
footing the keeper from his direct FK sending the ball just out of the
keepers reach and in the net.

Rye didnt let Loxwood catch their breath and Leach moments later shot just
wide of the near post from another Sam Cole threaded ball.

Ricky Martin managed to keep the ball in play near the half way line and
collided with the fencing, however he picked himself up and then managed to
run to close the defender down, his efforts were rewarded with a Rye throw
near the corner flag.

Rye turned on the style when Ricky Martin managed to get to the byline and
sent an inviting cross between defence and the keeper. This was met with a
diving header by Clarke on 39 minutes.

At the other end it was Clarke who headed away a Loxwood FK enabling Rye to
set up another attack. The half ended with Clarke trying his luck with a lob
from the half way line.

Second half and Leach nearly got Ryes third when a defender appeared to let
the ball bounce to the goal but Leach ran around him to intercept but was
unable to beat the keeper.

In the 55th minute Loxwood managed to build a certain amount of pressure but
couldnt penetrate the Rye defence and when they could Gardner was there to
gather or, if pressured, to punch away.

On 54 mins Sam Cole tried to lob from McArthur's chipped pass, and then a
Clarke header lacked power from Ricky Martin's cross. Leach tried a shot on
the turn but again the shot didnt find the net.

Leach was replaced by Woodley and “Salmon” Gall replaced by Godden on about
75 mins. Tuppeney then had to deal with a Loxwood shot after they managed to
enter foreign territory for the first time since the start of the second
period.

Ellis then received a red card for language to the assistant referee after
claiming a foul had been incorrectly given against Clarke.

Nathan Godden having to head away to clear as Loxwood pressed the 10 men of
Rye, the visitors having their busiest period of the game, letting fly with
4 shots in as many minutes. The first went over the fence into the river,
the second went wide, the third went to meet the first and lastly Gardner
pushed the ball around the post for a corner. Finally in the 100th minute
the ref blew.

A game where Rye were again a force to be reckoned with and special mention
to Ricky martin and Tuppeney but others named other inspirational deeds by
countless other players and was possibly the best Rye win of 2010 so far.
